BARBARA PARHAM HURST (1933 - 2023)

A legacy of love for over a century. The Parham-Hurst family story...

Reverend Clyde Parham and his daughter Barbara and son-in-law Taft (Junior) Hurst lived dedicated lives bringing the love of Christ to a hurting world.  Clyde never completed high school, but pastored churches and preached the Gospel throughout Western North Carolina, bridging the gaps and speaking out for marginalized people groups. His daughter followed in his footsteps when it came to bringing the love of Christ, especially, to children.

From traveling to places like the Dominican Republic on missions trips, to teaching Bible at a local Christian School, being a den leader for Cub Scouts, or teaching a Sunday School class, Barbara had a heart to see children know Jesus for themselves. Her only regret in life was not being able to have children of her own. Through a seed financial gift, the birth of the Parham-Hurst International Girls Society (PHIGS) will give her, posthumously, her heart's desire: children of her own through the homes and support services the Society provides.

Our Mission and Vision

Grounded in Christ-centered compassion, Parham-Hurst International Girls Society exists to provide safe, survivor-centered care for girls who have experienced trafficking or gender-based exploitation.

We envision a world where girls are free from harm and exploitation and are likewise free to achieve agency in all areas of their lives: physically, spiritually, intellectually, and emotionally.

Our History

We are a private charitable organization founded in 2024 by Jay & Robin Liner to posthumously honor the life and legacy of Barbara Parham Hurst (1933-2023). In the course of her life, she tirelessly prayed for and considered the needs of others, opened her home and served Christ with absolute faith in her walk with Him. Her loving influence now lives on through the work of the Society that bears her name.
